Navigating the stress of being a startup…

Lisa Love is the Co-founder and Co-CEO of Tanoshi. In this episode, we dive into the constant stress of being a startup and what it takes to adjust your execution to navigate it all.

Three key concepts:

  1. Your team is critical for execution. External disruptions are constant, so how well we as humans respond to those disruptions is the key to execution.
  2. Communicate, communicate, communicate – information needs to flow before the action is taken to avoid unnecessary disruptions. Let technology be your friend, especially when it comes to making information quickly available so that people don’t need to slow down the execution.
  3. Everyone on the team must have tenacity, flexibility, and commitment. This also means that you need positivity because your positivity is the fuel of execution.

BONUS – Leader guide: Use the following questions for (a) self-reflection as a leader and/or (b) a great discussion with your team.

2) What stood out most to you about the life of a startup founder? Why?
3) Lisa talked about how stress can come from almost anywhere at any time. How would you define the difference between healthy stress and unhealthy stress in 10 words or less? Share your answers.
4) What are the key elements of healthy stress? How do those factors get generated?
5) How well do we manage healthy stress – as both the cause agent and the responder? How often do we (a) fail to do that or (b) generate unhealthy stress?
6) What can we do to inject tenacity, flexibility, and commitment into our execution in a way that also generates positivity?
7) Option: Take time right now to define exactly what that looks like (the outcome(s), metrics, and requirements)
